Our long-term strategy

In 2012, we are reviewing our long-term strategy. The purpose of the review is to ensure that the strategy reflects the changing external environment and provides the right direction for us to achieve our aim of changing society for the better.

Our strategy is based on what disabled people tell us they want - and our staff and volunteers work to support this.

So we aim to improve in every area, while continuing to:

  • Be a credible and respectful ally of disabled people
  • Influence and drive changes to promote disabled people’s equality
  • Provide a range of modern services for well-informed customers
  • Be an aspirational and respectful organisation
  • Build our financial strength

By doing this, we are working towards our vision of a world where disabled people have the same opportunities to fulfil their life ambitions as everyone else.

Scope’s strategy is about all disabled people achieving equality. So our services are built around the people who face the biggest barriers to independence and inclusion.

These are usually people with complex support needs and often people with cerebral palsy. This is where much of our expertise is, and where we have the greatest impact on disabled people’s equality.

Our beliefs are central to our strategy. They’re like a compass – they keep us pointing in the right direction.

This means Scope doesn’t ‘get’ equality for disabled people. Nor do we ‘do’ something ‘to’ them. We facilitate, we enable and we provide great services. So we’re led by disabled people – their views, opinions and experiences.

Pursuing our beliefs will assist us in fulfilling our purpose: To drive the changes that will make our society the first in which disabled people are able to realise their full civil liberties and human rights.
