Standing Committees

Audit Committee

Purpose: To take responsibility for overseeing external and internal audit arrangements and processes; examining and testing the robustness of the framework for accountability and quality assurance, and of all systems and methods of audit and control (both financial and otherwise) including risk analysis and risk management. To check the robustness of systems and processes for ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.

Nominations Committee

Purpose: On behalf of the Board to ensure that the governance of Scope is fit for purpose, fit for mission and an exemplar of good governance for charities of similar size and complexity.

Engagement and Influence Commitee

Purpose: On behalf of the Board to act as guardians of Scope's values ensuring that disabled people are at the heart of Scope and that Scope plays a major and very effective role in influencing public opinion, relevant Government policies and public service delivery and campaigns.

Finance and Sustainability Committee

Purpose: On behalf of the Board to oversee and scrutinise all financial, property, fundraising and income generating matters so as to ensure long-term viability and sustainability of the Charity.

Property Committee

Purpose: To devise a property portfolio strategy and, on behalf of the Board, to provide oversight and scrutiny to all significant property activity including sales and acquisitions (both freehold and leasehold), both individual property and portfolio management and substantive work or any other contract of a material nature to ensure that they are in line with Scope's strategy, mission, business plan and annual budgets and to agreed policies and procedures, and to advise the Board accordingly.

Services Committee

Purpose: On behalf of the Board to ensure that Scope delivers a wide range of high-quality services, which will include education, (and early years services) independent living services, transition services, employment services, Scope Inclusion and Scope Response, to empower and enable disabled people to access the choice and control over their lives that non-disabled people take for granted and to deliver exemplar services, which support Scope's vision of disabled people achieving equality.

A second tier governance structure is being developed to ensure communication between Scope and its education services (required by statute) and other service provision (best practice)

Human Resources Committee

Purpose: a committee that reports to the Finance and Sustainability Committee to consider and deliver the policies and strategies on remuneration of Scope's staff and Chief Executive and Executive Management Team at Scope, and succession planning, where appropriate.
