And here are some ideas from those who've done it!

Virginia Bryant, a brave grandmother from North London, raised £400 by being sponsored to shave her head in the local pub.

Martin Godden from Kent organised a curry night for all his colleagues, friends and neighbours. He and a group of friends made all the food and got the drinks donated and then waited on their guests from home charging people £25 per head. He did it on two consecutive nights with 30 people each night raising £1,500.

John Antoniou from Hertfordshire organised a spinathon at his local gym and asked people to get sponsorship to take part. He also asked members to donate their £1 locker key deposit over a weekend raising £1,000.

Owen Jones from Hull dressed up as a giant cartoon cat and spent the weekend collecting at his local supermarket raising £400.

Jenny Harris from West Sussex organised 'The King and Barnes Ale Trail'. She challenged 10 teams of four who each raised £100 to visit as many of the 58 King and Barnes pubs as possible in 13 hours. They had to get a stamp from each pub and the day culminated in a party in the last pub. This event raised nearly £1,300.

Mike Power asked all his contacts to sponsor him a minimum of £10. In return they were entered into a raffle with over 50 great prizes including a TV and a cruise. Mike only printed 200 tickets, which meant that there was a one in four chance of winning – a great incentive!

However you decide to raise your money, make sure you let us know about any event you are organising so that we can advise you on health and safety and any rules and regulations that may apply.
