Let's campaign on the move: step by step
Step one - what’s your issue?
Many forms of transport are inaccessible to disabled people. You can help to raise awareness amongst transport providers (and society as a whole) of just how important it is for disabled people to be able to travel round easily.
Step two – what’s the solution?
Why not get together with friends and create a YouTube video about your experiences?
Kick start your campaign by getting people to think about your issue. Make a video showing the issue. This is your opportunity to show why a good transport system matters to disabled people. You might want to create your video with a petition. You can use our template petition (Word document, 48KB) to let transport providers in your area know how you, and your local community, would like them to improve their service for disabled people. Your petition might, for example, focus on encouraging bus drivers to allow more than one wheelchair user on the bus at a time.
Step three - who can help?
Let others know what you are doing by downloading our ready made press release (Word document, 26KB) and sending it to your local media. This will raise awareness of your campaign and may even encourage other people to support you!
In need of a little more guidance? Have a look at getting noticed for more information.
Step four – What else do I need?
Keep track of your supporters carefully. Make sure you keep everyone’s name safe and protected, and keep a running total of everyone that signs up to the petition so you can keep in touch with them. If you’re uploading a video online, make sure that you keep a record of all the comments it gets.
You can then send it to the transport provider with our template letter, but remember to get people's permission first.
Gathering evidence offers further advice on how to build your evidence base.
Step five – How can you celebrate your success?
Let your supporters know how your campaign is going – as it happens. If after watching your video or receiving your petition, the transport provider decided to make changes tell your supporters about it! You could also send out a press release about the success of your campaign.
