Disability Living Allowance

Scope has funded a report by Demos that looks at how the extra living costs disabled people face impact on levels of disability poverty. It found that when these extra living costs are taken into account the numbers of disabled people living in poverty is twice the official rate.

Whether it’s paying for a stair lift or a hydraulic bath, the cost of taxis because local public transport systems are inaccessible, or the expense of a sign language interpreter, these extra costs can have a catastrophic effect on disabled people’s disposable income, leaving them at much higher risk of poverty and financial exclusion.

This report examines the impact of these extra costs on people’s lives and makes suggestions for how the Government should approach its reform.
