Become a decision maker
It can be frustrating trying to achieve change from a distance. Getting those with decision-making powers to listen can sometimes be an uphill struggle.
Things shouldn’t be like that. So why not help change things by leading the way and considering becoming a decision-maker yourself? What better way to use your talents to create meaningful change?
Damien Chick’s story
Damian Chick is excited at the prospect of being the first disabled person to be elected to the National Assembly for Wales. Damian, who is 28 and has cerebral palsy, is enthusiastic to blaze a trail for disability issues in Mid-Glamorgan.
Prior to getting involved in party politics Damien had been very active in his community, campaigning hard to make buses and trains more accessible and improving the wheelchair service in South Wales. These experiences are what inspired Damien to bite the bullet and become a decision maker.
Damian says:
“Becoming an Assembly Member (AM) offers me a real opportunity to play an active role in shaping the way things are done at a local level. I’m keen to not only promote the interests of my constituents but I will also work hard to ensure disabled people too have a voice. The political culture is changing and we’re starting to see a real commitment from parties to increase the number of disabled politicians. Disabled people need to make the most of this opportunity. I would encourage everyone to play an active role in shaping the way things are done locally. It’s only by being involved that we can really have our say.”
You too could follow Damian’s lead and play a dynamic role in your area.
