Letters to editors

Most local and regional newspapers have a letters page.

A published letter can be a good way to raise awareness about your campaign or influence key decision-makers in your area.

Letters are usually a way of responding to issues in stories that have already been covered in the newspaper. However, a letter sent for publication on a local topical issue, perhaps focusing on a significant date, announcing an appeal, would also stand a good chance of getting published.

Your letters should be relevant and of interest to local people.

Keep it short – about three paragraphs is ideal. Remember, letters can be edited so by keeping your letter as concise as you can, you reduce the chances of parts being cut out.
