Photographs for the media

It is best to try to get a photographer or broadcaster to come along to cover your event / campaign. This will ensure that the photographs taken are in line with what newspapers are looking for. Also if a newspaper sends a photographer along there is more chance they will cover the story.

However, if this is not possible you can still submit some photographs. A couple of things to consider:

  • Ideally have two to three people in the picture or up to six people if it’s a group shot. Try not to have too many people, to avoid the ‘pinhead effect’ where too many heads are in the photo.
  • Take active shots of people doing things – avoid static or clichéd shots, such as giant cheque presentations, which are unlikely to be picked up by newspapers.
