Road safety fears in London

Joanna Sholem from London is concerned about her safety. Joanna is worried that if the proposed reduction in crossing times goes ahead she could get stuck in the road (when the light turns red) and may be at risk of being knocked down.
Joanna says “I think this is a horrible and potentially dangerous idea and it makes me feel marginalised as a disabled person. As I live and work in London it is crucial that I am confident enough to travel safely without feeling pressured. It seems as though reducing traffic congestion is more important to the Mayor and his team than pedestrian safety.”
Joanna is so concerned that she has written to the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, asking him to ensure that any change in road crossings take into account the needs of disabled people.
If you too are concerned about the effects these changes will have on disabled people, why not join Joanna in voicing your objections to the Mayor and simply download our template letter to get started (Word document, 31KB).
