Inclusion in the early years
Inclusion is the way in which we shape our society to ensure that some members are not ‘left out’. Being included is part of being respected and valued.
For disabled children there may be barriers in their way. For young children inclusion is about fitting the setting to meet their needs and not the other way around.
Scope's work on inclusion in the early years
Scope works with parents, children and other organisations to identify and address barriers to inclusion. We do this through a range of projects and initiatives like:
- Our inclusive nursery at Walton Children’s Centre
- our work on play and communication
- our range of training materials to encourage inclusion
- factsheets that support inclusion by addressing questions frequently asked by children, parents and teachers
- our Scope Inclusion Teams
- our response team dealing with general queries and signposting
