Strengthening Families Project Training Course
Research shows that families of disabled children and children with additional needs can experience considerable stress resulting in a negative impact on the relationship of the parents.
Working in conjunction with parents and leading professionals in the field, including Professor Hilton Davies, Contact a Family, Relate and Sunfield School, the Strengthening Families Project has developed a one-day training package for professionals and volunteers so that they can offer effective relationship support to families. It is the only training package of its type in the UK and is already gaining widespread interest from professionals and also the media.
This training course aims to make professionals and volunteers more aware of the pressures that families face when their child has an additional need, in order for them to help parents to put the emphasis back on their relationship with each other.
The training is suitable for anyone who comes into contact or works with parents who have a child with a disability or additional need; this includes relationship counsellors, teachers, health workers, social workers or agencies that have direct contact with the families.
The training package is aimed at equipping workers to deal empathically with parents of these children when they are facing relationship difficulties. Consisting of four modules, it addresses more specifically the impact of disability on family relationships and the skills required by professionals and supporters to enable families to manage these stresses.
The course is delivered over one day and covers areas such as active listening, contemplation and reflection and the emotional issues parents may encounter.
The training is suitable for any establishment that could, or already does, offer this type of support to families of children with additional needs.
We will deliver the course for up to 20 people. All we ask is that you provide the venue (in-house or elsewhere) and lunch for delegates. We will do the rest!
