ICT
Our classrooms are equipped with computers, large-screen interactive whiteboards and speaker systems, to enhance the multi-sensory experience of students and to stimulate learning.
Individual students’ abilities to access computers and other equipment through the use of ICT and switches are regularly assessed in accordance with the student’s Individual Education Plan by the IT technician and
speech and language therapist, with input from parents, teachers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, keyworkers and other professionals.
We are continually developing the ICT/IT equipment and resources both in school and at our residential bungalows to meet the individual needs of our students and to help them in taking control of their environment.
Through the use of accessible switches, students are able to be interactive using ICT in teaching sessions, from helping in calling the register to starting an educational video or piece of music.
Our residential bungalows are equipped with environmental controls that give residents the ability to operate televisions, CD players, open the curtains or turn the light on or off.
As well as using a range of SEN (Special Educational Needs) computer games and educational software in classrooms we also develop a wide range of fun, age- appropriate computer resources featuring photos, sound and video. These are tailored to the students’ individual interests and sensory needs.
