Physiotherapy

Specialist neuro-paediatric physiotherapists employed by Rutland House School work with children and young people with complex needs (and their carers and families) to help them maximise their physical skills and potential. This is at the centre of Rutland House’s ethos.

The team approach at Rutland House School allows the physiotherapists to work with the whole multi-disciplinary team to provide this service. This enables each child to have a comprehensive individualised physiotherapy care plan that is integrated into their day. Individualised programmes may include:

  • 24-hour postural management programmes including sleep systems and supportive seating
  • Individualised passive movement and stretch programmes
  • Standing frames
  • Gait trainers
  • Orthotics
  • Rebound therapy
  • Riding
  • Swimming and hydrotherapy
  • Lying task sessions
  • Sensory integration sessions

We regularly:

  • Reassess students and review their programmes
  • Refer to and liaise with relevant specialist services
  • Train and advise school staff
  • Work with parents and carers and offer home visits
  • Set gross motor objectives with the student’s class teacher so that these can be in their Individual Education Plan and worked on consistently throughout the day.
