Short breaks and family support
Scope offers a wide range of short breaks and family support services designed to meet the needs of children and young people with cerebral palsy and related impairments including complex health needs, autism and challenging behaviours. These services include:
- Home support by our Scope Inclusion Teams including domiciliary care and overnight support, to provide a break for the main family carer and deliver personal support to the child or young person.
- Community-based support, delivered by our Scope Inclusion Teams to enable disabled children and young people to access local leisure activities and clubs, supporting their inclusion within their local communities.
- Scope residential short breaks (respite) in Scope-owned accommodation, which is specially designed to meet the needs of children with complex needs. We can offer single overnight stays or breaks of a few days or a week or more.
- Short-term foster-based short breaks by Scope Fostering Services in the homes of approved foster carers for single nights, weekends or whole weeks.
Scope short breaks are designed to meet the needs of both children and young people and their families. We aim to offer breaks which are fun, interesting and developmental for young people. Our highly trained staff are experienced in meeting the individual needs of children and aim to make you feel confident that your child's stay is as pleasant as possible.
Scope recognises the benefits that short breaks bring to disabled children and young people and their families and is supportive of the Government measures to extend short breaks through Aiming High for Disabled Children. (Read more about this on www.everychildmatters.gov.uk and www.togetherfdc.org. )
Scope is working with a number of Local Authorities and Primary Care Trusts across the country, including pathfinder Authorities, to both deliver and develop short breaks services and also to provide practical assistance in responding to the Aiming High initiative.
