Sensory Learning
Everyone benefits from sensory learning (it activates more of the brain and is vital to cognitive development). Children with special educational needs and disabilities may benefit particularly.
Individuals with PMLD learn in a sensory way. Children with Autism, ADHD and other associated conditions such as Tourettes can struggle with sensory processing issues and need to have support modulating and regulating their responses to stimuli.
Sensory stories are a really fun way of engaging children with communication and story telling and supporting them with their sensory needs. Currently they can be quite expensive to purchase. I wanted to share with everyone this project currently running on kickstarter which aims to create affordable high quality stories so that they can be available to all: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sensorystory/sensory-stories
the link will take you to a short film explaining more about sensory learning and to a page explaining about the project.
If you haven't heard of kickstarter let me explain a little, it's a bit like sponsorship in that people pledge money (which is not taken unless the project is a success). Unlike sponsorship you get something in exchange for your money, in kickstarter lingo these are called rewards, some of the rewards on this project are sensory stories themselves.
The project currently has the backing of many high profile members of the special needs community but still needs more backers to be a success and to actually happen.
I hope that people in this forum will understand the benefits of sensory learning and be able to back and share this project.
Thank you everyone for reading this post.
Kind regards
Joanna
