Hi Carrie29

I hope that you can find peace at this difficult time. I have emailed my old colleague asking some general questions about the role of Jobcentreplus in advising employers.

I have not given them any details regarding your situation, if they are able to provide detailed answers to the following questions it may provide another avenue to you to expore to add more weight to your case.

I need some advice as to the role of JCP when advising
employers who employ disabled people.

How involved is JCP in the process? under what
circumstances can JCP visit employers? Can JCP be
called in to help deal with an employer with whom a
disabled employee is having difficulty?

Do you know who to contact regarding the disability
and equal opportunities symbol showing an agreement
between an employer who is recognised by JCP as
promoting a positive attitude toward disabled. I need
to know about how to get an organisations disability
status reviewed?

I hope we will a useful reply,

Andrew

Hi i think they are given me a few weeks to recover. As i was given a extra eight weeks redeployment .I have until July to find a job .Then if i don`t have one i am sacked.
They may have a job part time i admin 30 `s a week but i am used to full time hours money extra.
I have gone for it as i am still recovering from both operations and maybe part time would be better. My partner and family think so.
So waiting to hear back .I am spending my time retraining myself in IT online course as i can`t just sit and wait.
It`s the waiting that is getting to me i can`t make plans etc.

Hi carrie29

I have received a reply to the email I sent earlier to my old colleague who is a disability employment advisor under each question I add the detailed answer I received.

question 1
Under what circumstances can JCP visit employers?

answer
JCP visits employers to get vacancies and also for employees having
difficulties within their job related to a disability,as long as
employer and employee agree.

question 2
Can JCP be called in to help deal with an employer with whom a
disabled employee is having difficulty?

answer
Yes and that's me,DEA,this would be called a retention case if their
job was at risk.I would or a DEA covering the area the employee works would
be contacted by the employee given details and then the DEA would
contact the employer to discuss how they saw the problems have a joint
meeting and see if he/she could offer any help.I would also get the
help of a work psychologist if it was to get ideas how the job could be
changed to enable the employee to stay in it.

question 3
Do you know who to contact regarding the disability
and equal opportunities symbol showing an agreement
between an employer who is recognised by JCP as
promoting a positive attitude toward disabled?

answer
That's me again it is called the Disability symbol and is shown by the
double tick. You would need to contact the DEA who dealt with the area
the Employer was based and he could find out if he would need to go in
or they would have to visit headquarters address.

question 4
I need to know about how to get an organisations disability
status reviewed ?

answer
DEA's do an annual review but because of many changes in DEA's over
recent times a lot of these reviews have not been done.So if you have a
concern contact the DEA give him your reasons and he should be able to
arrange a review fairly quickly.

I hope this information may assist your situation, if you need further help please let me know.

take care
Andrew

Hi Carrie29

I totally agree with you. It seems that organisations spout on about people not having the relevent experience to do a particular job however they are quite happy for a temp to do the job till someone else can take over "so their organisational needs are meet". What they fail to realise is that they have spent time and money training a temp who knows whats required for the job and thet may have to do the same for the person with more experience anyway so why not give you the job. After all how can you can experience if your not given a chance.

There is no why of knowing whether "a person with the experience" can do the job so really an employer has to take a gamble either way so i just see it as an excuse not to give you the job.

How's your recovery going?

I am on the redeployment register folowing two operations on major one on my leg. and a slightly smaller one on my back. I was temporally redeployed to a office job as i was a Nursery Nurse i am now retraining for a Admin post as i know a less physical job will be better . I have applied for posts at the office i am in as i neeh a perement role and i was unsucessful for a interview for my lack of experience . What is really making me angry is i have been asked to cover until the new person comes so why am i good enough for cover buy it`s goodbye once the person starts.

Hi Carrie 29

I think it is good when your instincts give you feelings about a particular organistation that you may consider working for, thats what I have found anyway, and it helps you decide whether the organisation is the right place to work for you.

I hope you are able to make real progress in your recovery and are able to find the right job for you. I have not found that job yet, but fingers crossed it will happen soon for both of us.

Hi as i have said before i have had two big operations in the last year one which i am learning to walk again. I was a Nursery Nurse for 12 Years i have been put on the redeployment register for the council to find me a tesk job . I have very little experience of this so retraining myself straight after my last operation six hours a day when i am in pain. Because i only have until July to get redeployed. All the jobs the council are sending me too i am getting back you don`t have the experience to do so or finished the training yet . I am upset as i can`t recover as well because i have all this added stress as well. I have proved i can work and willing to learn but getting nothing back. Carrie

Hi Carrie

Well done on your new job good luck with it. If you are only working part time you might be entitled to council tax benefit depending on how much you are earning etc it might be worth looking into if you are going to be on less money etc.
There's also working tax credits which might be worth looking into as well.
Good luck take care

Hi Carrie29

I know only too well what you are feeling about your redeployment issues, I found the redeployment team were not forth coming with any useful help and that was one of the reasons I left DWP. Surely it makes sense for them to provide you jobs that you have the skills and experience to do. In my opinion if this is not how they are supporting you as you look for the right job, then why are they there?

Did you have any luck with the disability employment advisor you were seeing, as it appears to me that the council are not assisting you with job hunting in a positive way,

Andrew
