My 11 year old daughter has right side hemiplegia. When her walking began to slowly deteriorate and she started using a crutch, (then into a wheelchair), it was decided she need a hip operation in November 2010. In January 2011 she was still is not walking, her knee was still pretty tight, we went back to the surgeon in May and he gave her a steroid injection for the pain in the hip and Botox in her upper thigh. This made a difference, it made it easier to do the physio exercises and we did feel that the Botox help with the leg extension. But 9 month after the operation she stands up like a flamingo, with a lot of effort she can get her leg down so her toes just touch the ground but there is no strength there, she is still in the wheelchair. I was just wanted to know if anyone has had a problem recovering from a hip operation. She has physio, we are going back for more botox and a steroid injection. The Paediatrician said it not neural (meaning I think that her brain signals are not any further affected). Any ideas?
