what to do with myself?
i was recently involved in a pretty bad road/cycle accident and now am confined to wheelchair. i may walk again but looks unlikely at this point. have had various counselling and advice but wondering what people on the forum think? what good things to do? and advice of productive, entertaining, etc? although quite young, i've not really gone onto the internet that much so any thoughts on positive ways of using it are welcome. thanks! Sash
Hi, thanks. Yes, the gym is a good idea. just have to find a suitable one. I think the Paralympic Games had some cool examples of sports to think about too. just have to get around to it!
In most areas now the local gym has a scheme run in conjunction with the NHS. Anyone can ask their GP or physio for a referral to these schemes and they cost very little. For example, I go to my local gym and it cost me £1.50 a session, after attending for 16 weeks I get a free 12 months pass to the gym. My brother lives in a different area, he dosent have CP but he has mobility problems due to a knee injury, he had a free pass for his local Total Fitness which included the use of their fantastic swimming pool. It differs from area to area but well worth asking your surgery about.
The really good thing about this scheme is that these are special sessions set up for people with either physical or health issues so the trainers are specially trained to help people with problems not just fit people who want to work out.
You will also get to meet others in similar positions to yourselves.
Give it a go - please?
Once contact Physiotherapist, he/she can give good advice and exercise poses for you to get recovered!!
Hi Sash. You.ve already mentioned the magic word....Positive! You have to be positive in everything you do.I know that won't be easy at times.
Exercise is a great way to keep your spirits up, and there are so many things you can do. Good luck Sash

Hello Sash,
I'm glad that despite that what happened to you. You still keep to live life productively and have positive outlook in life. Keep that kind of attitude. I'm not much familiar with paralympic sport but I found this two website about paralympic

Hope it might help!
Hi,
Have you thought about doing some Physio/ Gym exercises. Due to my Cp I am slightly over weight and do little exercise, so I found going to the gym really improved my fitness and helped me get more strength in my legs.
Maybe get sokme ideas off your doctor or consultant who treats you would help also x
