"The on-the-job experience that I've gained has been invaluable to me especially for when I move into a full-time position within the banking industry. The best thing about Leadership Recruitment is the help and support offered by the staff there."
Nikitha Narayan, Leadership Recruitment trainee
Leadership Recruitment provides individual guidance to both line manager and the trainee to ensure disability does not have an adverse affect on job performance. In addition to advice on reasonable adjustments, we also provide a mentoring role to assist in the trainees' development. Training is also provided in communication skills, disability management and time management.
People recruited to the work placement programme are employed by Scope for 12 months, so employers and employees alike have time to assess whether the trainee is suited to the role.
Partners pay a fee to Scope on arranging each placement, which covers the salary costs of the trainee along with recruitment and support costs.
Most employers require candidates to undertake a third assessment before offering a placement. This may be a short interview or may also involve a test depending on the role.
Once a placement has been offered and the trainee requires particular arrangements to be made such as equipment or facilitation, the scheme manager will assist the trainee to make a claim for support via the government-funded scheme called Access to Work.
Successful trainees are paid (and technically employed) by Scope, and are placed on a secondment basis to the employing organisation. There will be a standard Scope contract but Leadership Recruitment trainees are expected to follow the host employer's normal working arrangements and procedures.
At the beginning of the placement, managers will set clear aims, objectives and deadlines with the trainee. Trainees are expected to work hard, be conscientious and create a good impression.
Scope provides induction training and on-going support during the placement. Trainees are also encouraged to develop their own peer support network.
What you can expect from Leadership Recruits: graduate-level competency, clear communication about disability needs, a responsible attitude to work, politeness, enthusiasm and co-operation, willingness to learn and to take responsibility.
