Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS)

The Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) replaces the previous helpline provided by the Equality and Human Rights Commission. The service is run by Sitel in partnership with Disability Rights UK.

While individuals can contact the service directly, the Government is envisaging that the majority of cases will come from local groups and organisations who will refer people in need of further advice and support on discrimination and EASS than they are able to provide. Individuals will be encouraged to find informal solutions before seeking redress through legal means.

The service seeks to work collaboratively with advice agencies and other local organisations who are often the first points of contact to which people turn when they have discrimination problems, receiving referrals and feeding back on the outcome for individual clients. By local organisations and the EASS sharing information on the conclusion of a case (with individual consent), this will help build a picture of emerging trends or level of need for advice within a region.
