The Trendsetters project

"There are other people like you out there. Knowing you’re not the only one helps!"

Trendsetters is a project run by Scope for young disabled people.

We’re all individuals but have become Trendsetters to share information and ideas. We talk about good and bad things that are happening in our lives and have lots of fun!

If you are 10 to 18 years old, becoming a Trendsetter lets you:

• Join a group of young disabled people who live in England and Wales.
• Talk to young people who understand about the things that matter to you.
• Find out other Trendsetters' stories and share your own.
• Chat to Trendsetters online or face-to-face and make new friends.
• Have fun learning new skills and sharing information with other young people.
• Meet disabled adults with experience, tips (and bad jokes!) to share.

How Trendsetters started

The Trendsetters project started out as a pilot in late 2009 because Scope kept hearing about disabled young people feeling isolated, different, left out, angry and not understood. We were asked for information specifically produced for children and young people, and realised that within Scope we didn’t actually have a service that met the needs of this age group, the 10 to 18 year olds.

Children in Need and Rank Foundation

In early 2012 Scope was successful in applying for Children in Need and Rank Foundation funding to develop the Trendsetters project over the next couple of years - which is great news!
