Mathematics - requirements of P level 6

  • To sort objects and materials according to a given criteria, for example sorting footballs into a net and tennis balls into a box
  • To copy simple patterns or sequences, for example copying a number of drum beats, a simple pattern of repeated movements, and a pattern of large and small cups
  • To demonstrate an understanding of one to one correspondence in a range of contexts, for example matching cups to saucers, straws to drink cartons
  • To count reliably to three, to make up sets of three objects and to use numbers to three in familiar counting games and activities. To demonstrate an understanding of ‘more’ indicating that more cups, counters, food items are required
  • To search for objects when they are not in their place, demonstrating object permanence. To compare the overall size of one object when the overall difference is not great. To manipulate three dimensional shapes, for example putting shapes into a shape sorter. To show understanding of words, signs and symbols that describes positions
