Science and dyslexia at P level 4

Drawing of brain with letters inside

Begin by reading the information on the challenges faced by children with dyslexia across the curriculum and at all levels, plus the suggestions for inclusion

Science at the P levels and beyond is a practical subject which the dyslexic pupil can access, with support to organise their work and follow instructions

 You can:

  • Make sure new vocabulary is clearly presented and in context, using visual props where possible
  • Demonstrate any activities and the skills needed first (such as putting flour in a bowl and adding water)
  • Show the sequence of what to do either on the white board or as a hand-out with support

The advice for children with autistic spectrum disorder in science at P level 4 also applies here, regarding useful rhymes and construction games
