Art and design at KS2 and dyslexia

Moving on from KS1 the challenges are discussing approaches and methods and collecting visual information to explore ideas. Communicating different approaches and methods will require specific vocabulary and the confidence to use it.
You can:
- Support the pupil with vocabulary in advance - avoid having the pupil explain something they’re not confident about in front of others.
- Help the pupil with the organisation skills needed to collect visual information.
- Break open-ended tasks down into small steps, with simple instructions. Give a clear hand-out as a reminder, preferably with illustrations.
- Try a checklist approach to remind the pupil of what they need to do by asking them to think about what they have already done. It helps the pupil gain an organisational skill which is transferable to other subjects and areas, and it gives the pupil a sense of control.
