Art and design at KS3 and dyslexia

The challenge at KS3 is remembering the sequence of the creative process and recording it, including the evaluation of the pupil’s own and others’ work.
You can:
- Help establish the difference between facts and description, observation and personal response.
- Use a diagram or ‘map’ to help the pupil remember the sequence of processes - use uncomplicated language for this.
- Have a bank of vocabulary readily accessible, which has been explained to the pupil in context.
- Use a laminated vocabulary sheets with relevant words arranged in topics such as colour, shape, texture.
- Use a prompt sheet which the pupil can fill in. Have a series of sentences which they can complete, and which lead them through everything they need to record about their work. Make the prompt sheet very clear, and with a logical progression (don’t have boxes that go both across and down on different parts of the sheet, as the pupil may get confused).
