Art and design and physical impairment at P level 6

The challenge at P level 6 is in imitating techniques, practising new skills and gathering tools and resources. Any of these tasks may be challenging to a physically impaired child.

You can:

  • Be consistent in adapting tools to suit physical impairment. Once an effective method has been established, make sure that the pupil is able learn to use the adaptation.
  • Plan projects that the pupil can access more easily with differentiation. Try experimenting with the length of handles on rollers and brushes. For example using long-handled rollers and brushes with paper placed on the floor can be very effective and accessible for wheelchair-users. Add wheelchair prints to contribute to the effect.
  • Use software such as Paint with accessible computer technology (a modified keyboard, mouse and interactive whiteboard).
