English and children with hearing impairment at P level 5-8

P level 5 requires progress in learning vocabulary and answer questioning, as at P level 4. Before using printed words or other symbols check that the child understands the words in context. P levels 6-8 require increasing levels of social interaction in groups.

 You can:

  • Make sure the child can see all the other children in the group and that they all turn towards the child when speaking.
  • Ensure the environment is quiet enough for the child to hear others speaking.
  • Check for understanding by encouraging the child to ask if they have not understood or heard properly.
