English and P levels 4-8
P levels (1-3) are the same in all subjects, because they are measuring a basic response to a stimulus. P levels 4–8 are more specific, measuring how the pupil acquires skills and knowledge in each subject area. These pages contain lists of the basic requirements for P levels 4-8 in literacy, and look at how they are affected by the main areas of disability. Follow the links to see how each disability affects the achievement of P levels and for some ideas to help your pupils.
English is divided into four areas:
- Speaking
- Listening
- Reading
- Writing
The P level requirements listed below show assessment in each of the four areas.
Sensory processing issues have been included in the Autism Spectrum Disorder sections, along with communication difficulties similar to dyslexia and dyspraxia.
