  • Find a means of assessing understanding based on what you know the pupil can do. If you ask them to match symbols, the child needs to be able to clearly refer to the one they mean. Check by asking them.
  • Explore ways of communicating clear responses from children who are able to use verbal or partially verbal responses.
  • Use switches to access technology with the relevant programs.
