PE: physical impairment at P level 8

Pupils working at this P level may need technology to achieve the requirements to work in an adapted way.

You can:

  • Help the pupil demonstrate understanding of the concept of ‘over and under’ using equipment in the hand or through computer programmes
  • Look at adapting sport for wheelchair users, such as a version of basketball for self-propelled wheelchair users along with non-disabled pupils, or in the water with basic games using an inflatable ball or hoops: this could involve a tactical game such as an amended netball where a ball is pushed along the surface of the water, or thrown, and others try to intercept; a very much more simple game could be when an inflated object is released from being held below the water and the pupils have to reach it
  • Always start from what the pupil can do then build on that; try to see a disability as a challenge to your ingenuity rather than something restrictive and negative
