PE: hearing impairment at P level 4

Hearing impairment

The child with a hearing impairment may have difficulty understanding instructions, following rules, interacting with other children and working as part of a team.

You can:

  • Ensure instructions are clear, kept to a minimum and given out near to and facing the pupil
  • Support instructions with visual prompts – which could be photographs of the skill required or symbols of what to do, as appropriate
  • Restrict general class instructions to quieter moments
  • Ensure the whole class understands the need to speak clearly, be flexible when working in teams and be tolerant of misunderstanding
