Read the section on communication difficulties that applies across subject areas and levels for an explanation of the main issues and strategies to use in each case. 

In group work ensure the pupil with communication difficulties is given time by others to respond. This may mean waiting while they search for symbols they need, press a switch, scroll through auditory prompts on their communication aid or go through different pages on a tablet to find the word or phrase they want.

Ensure that relevant pre-programming/recording of voice-output communication aids is done before the lesson and in consultation with the pupil, so that it is used in as meaningful way as possible.
