PSHE: communication difficulties at P level 7

Communicating ideas and feelings by simple phrases may need support, as will developing purposeful relationships for group work. It may be hard for the pupil with communication difficulties to show support of another pupil’s needs.
You can
- Build the use of simple phrases into communication aids. Don’t record any messages the pupil won’t understand; work with the pupil to create the appropriate messages for the situations they face.
- Use symbols and cue cards to create a recorded message or make them available in the relevant section of the pupil’s book or folder.
- Right and wrong will need clear demonstrations, through role play or a relevant DVD. Make sure there is no confusion with the words write and right. Approach the subject with yes/no responses such as, ‘yes, this behaviour is right; ‘no, that behaviour is wrong’.
