PSHE at KS1 and dyslexia

Hearing impairment

The issues for dyslexic children at KS1 are similar to those across the curriculum and at all levels so read the main challenges for children with dyslexia across subject areas, and some suggestions to help them.

Dyslexic pupils will struggle to remember names. Encouraging them to repeat other pupils’ names will help, as will having photographs of everyone in the class.

Encourage the pupil to refer to students by names, rather than allowing them to say ‘she/he said’

For assessments, the dyslexic pupil will need reminding of the time they have remaining for the task and will need support keeping on track.
