PSHE at KS1 and physical impairment
Any pupil with a physical impairment will need appropriate support through adapted equipment, extra space, and in many cases an integrated physiotherapy programme and support for personal care.
For PSHE at KS1 the issues affecting a child with a physical impairment will be the same as those across the curriculum. Begin by reading the information on challenges faced by physically impaired children across the curriculum and at all levels, plus the suggestions for inclusion. Also read the information on PSHE at P levels 4-8.
It is worth recognising the wider impact on learning that physical impairment may have, and visiting the other PSHE pages too.
Also consider the emotional impact of being physically disabled and how this affects self-esteem and friendships. Consider using PSHE circle time to address the challenges for a physically disabled child, in a subtle and supportive way.
