PSHE: physical impairment at P level 4

For PSHE the issues affecting a child with a physical impairment will be the same as those across subjects. Begin by reading the information on challenges faced by physically impaired children across the curriculum and at all levels, plus the suggestions for inclusion. Also read the information on PSHE at KS1-3.

It is worth recognising the wider impact on learning that physical impairment may have, and visiting the other PSHE pages too.

The pupil may be beginning to feel different from others; left out and less able to socialise.

Try working on acceptance of everybody’s differences by identifying ways that all pupils are the same, and then ways that each pupil is an individual.  Try using the SEAL materials for group work; the Silver Set has some very good resources, and the ordinary year-group-specific materials are very inclusive for all pupils, including disabled pupils in mainstream schools.
