PSHE: physical impairment at P level 6

This P level requires an increase in the social skills of cooperation and turn-taking. Again be careful to consider how you’ll facilitate group working.

You can:

  • Use circle time games such as the talking object.
  • Use musical instruments as an opportunity for taking turns, for example a rhythm that the others copy.
  • Use a Skoog to help a severely physically impaired pupil use music to work within a group. With light pressure on this squidgy cube, music or non-musical sounds can be produced. The sound setting is chosen by the teacher, and could fit in with class topics (for example different animal sounds on each face to be used in ‘Old MacDonald had a farm’ or a trumpet sound to fit in with a backing track).
