PSHE: visual impairment at P level 6
The pupil will find it challenging to work cooperatively. Showing concern for others will also need support as the pupil won’t have the visual clues for this.
You can:
- Support group work by planning activities in advance. Try games where all the pupils wear a blindfold so they have to listen carefully and guess what is happening around them. Help them to understand, through their own experience, how difficult things become if they cannot see. Lead a discussion afterwards about how they can all help the visually impaired pupil.
- Support the pupil’s development of empathy for others by asking what makes someone upset, happy or cross and discussing how these feelings are shown, for example in tone of voice, gesture and facial expression.
