Science and physical impairment at P level 7
P level 7 requires a greater vocabulary and the ability to use everyday words in a scientific way. These concepts are harder to establish if the pupil’s involvement is not hands-on. Another challenge is in recording work.
You can:
- Make scientific vocabulary as obvious as possible, in the context of activities. Use visual clues to reinforce meaning and involve the pupil as much as possible, even if they are working with others.
Use IT for recording work. Use either a simple Word document (a prepared template with questions to answer), or a voice recorder. The pupil can explain what they did and what happened with verbal prompts, in the form of key questions.
