Introduction to Scope

One in every 400 babies born in this country has cerebral palsy: that's 1,500 people every year. As they grow up many will find that communication, getting around or simple things like opening cans are harder for them than for other people. There will be practical things that they cannot do, things that most people take for granted.

Scope's mission is to drive the change to make our society the first where disabled people achieve full equality. We campaign for disabled people's rights and we provide housing, information and advice, education and all the other kinds of support that enable people with cerebral palsy to live the way they choose. Scope is a resource that people can use to take control of their lives.

There should be no need for Scope. If employers looked at people's abilities, if politicians recognised that disabled people have the same right as anyone else to participate in society, if everyone saw individuals instead of labels, then disabled people wouldn't need our support and we wouldn't need yours.

Maybe one day, but not yet. Scope is an essential resource for thousands of people all over England and Wales, providing services that they rely on every day.
