Scope has a three-year strategic partnership with BT to use technology to increase independent living for young disabled people.

There are several barriers young disabled people face in their everyday lifestyles, including safety in the home and community and a lack of choice and control. All these lead to confidence issues. In addition to this, the cost of technology in niche specialist markets remains high. There is therefore a need for BT and Scope to work together to address these barriers and to alleviate digital exclusion.

We will be working with a number of young disabled students at Scope’s Beaumont College to develop tailored technology solutions to enable the individuals to live more independently.

The new equipment may be able to help them access the internet so they can socialise with friends online, or even control their own lighting and heating at home, for example.
