Our corporate partners: Capital One
Leading Nottingham business, Capital One, is working with Scope to pilot a ground-breaking project that supports local disabled people to manage their finances.
Recent changes to the benefits system mean that disabled people will start to receive direct payments and manage personal budgets. They will become employers, hiring and managing their own care and support staff.
However, 220,000 disabled people in the UK do not have a bank account. Many of those affected will not have experience of budgeting or paying bills.
The six-month scheme will train financial capability volunteers to support disabled people in Nottingham, who need to make important financial decisions around commissioning care services.
Capital One is also supporting Scope by sponsoring the Richard Whitehead Nottingham 5k Family Fun Run taking place on Sunday 8 September. Capital One will kindly match pound for pound all money raised for Scope and Sarcoma UK*.
Long-time Scope supporter Capital One has funded several projects in the past, including
- an accessible minibus
- adaptations to community services for young disabled people
- sensory equipment
and fielded an impressive number of runners who fundraise for Scope in the London Marathon.
* Capital One will match every pound raised for the Richard Whitehead Nottingham 5k – up to a limit of £30,000.
