Jayden is gaining independence, thanks to you
Jayden, aged five, is a typical little boy. He's stubborn and troublesome and very smart. And no matter what life throws at him, he still manages to smile and laugh.
Dionne is a single mum to Jayden. He has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, visual impairments and learning difficulties. He's now in his first year of school.
Dionne's had an incredibly tough time trying to get the specialist support he needs. She told us,
"I always thought – naively – that the council offered a lot of help for disabled children and carers. I never thought the level of services would be so bad."
Finally, she spoke to Vasu, one of our support workers. He listened and gave advice. He made sure Social Services assessed Dionne and Jayden to decide what support Jayden could have, like physiotherapy and specialist equipment – something Dionne had been tirelessly fighting for.
Now, thanks to your support, a carer helps Dionne with Jayden's physiotherapy for a few hours a week. This strengthens his muscles, so he's gaining the independence important for his future. We also introduced Dionne to other parents with disabled children in her area.
There's still a long way to go, but Dionne knows that Vasu's always at the end of the phone.
Dionne says, "I go back to Scope time and again because things actually get done. Scope has been brilliant, I can't say more than that."
This is all possible thanks to people like you.
