Scope Venture Philanthropy Fund
The Scope Venture Philanthropy Fund is a unique concept for philanthropists.
Fund synopsis
- Monthly donations from individual philanthropists pooled into the Fund.
- Every £50,000 gross received into the Fund will set up a new Scope shop.
- Surplus from the shops are recycled to set up six shops in five years.
- This generates £180,000 income per year from year six meaning every net donation of £1 leverages £7.20 per annum.
- £180,000 per year could support 360 families with disabled children a year.
Sustainability
The Venture Philanthropy Fund invests donations to generate a sustainable income for Scope. Each donation will be used to set up a new Scope charity shop. A new shop costs £50,000 to set up and will generate an annual cash surplus of £30,000 for Scope within 12 months of trading. This £30,000 annual cash surplus will be reinvested after 24 months of the shop opening in order to open an additional Scope shop. The £30,000 surplus from the second shop will then be combined to open a third shop, and so on.
Value
Each donation to the Venture Philanthropy Fund is maximised through efficient use of Gift Aid and tax relief. The result is that for every net donation of £1 to the fund, we will generate £7.20 per year to spend on supporting disabled people and their families. Impact
Traditionally, donors give directly to projects that provide support and make a difference to individuals. However, by leveraging the donation for sustainability and value, the impact of each pound donated is greatly increased.
For example, a one-off donation of £50,000 could support 100 families like Kerry's.
However, £50,000 to Scope Scope Venture Philanthropy Fund enables us to set up six charity shops in five years, generating £180,000 income per year, which could support 360 families with disabled children a year… or 7,200 families in 20 years!
