Mount Kilimanjaro Trek FAQs
How do I register?
Please send your £199 registration fee along with a completed application form to Scope, 6 Market Road, London N7 9PW. You can also register online at www.scope.org.uk/trek
How much do I have to raise?
There is a non-refundable registration fee of £199 and a minimum sponsorship of £3,350*. £2,000 is due ten weeks before the event and the remaining £1,350 is due five weeks before the event. Once you have signed up for a Scope event, we will send you a comprehensive sponsor pack and Scope’s experienced fundraising staff are here to help you every step of the way. You can choose to fundraise the full amount, pay it yourself or do a bit of both.
Why would people want to sponsor me to take part in a Scope Challenge?
By taking part in a Scope challenge you are dedicating your spare time to fundraising the minimum sponsorship, which is a challenge in itself and you are undertaking a difficult and intense physical challenge. If Scope didn't have people like you raising money for us then we wouldn't be able to support as many disabled people as we currently do.
How much training will I need?
You will receive a complete training guide when you register which we recommend that you follow. This is a tough level trek and you will be trekking for six consecutive days at altitude so training is essential. Every trekker has to complete a detailed medical form.
Do I need a visa?
British passport holders need a visa to enter Tanzania which can be obtained from the Tanzanian embassy. You must have a machine readable passport with at least six months validity from the date of return to the UK.
Can I stay on?
Yes, we will put you in touch with our tour operator, Action Challenge. To extend the length of your stay you must get in touch with them as soon as possible. Please note that places may be limited so extensions are done on a first come, first served basis. There will be a surcharge for the flight as you will no longer come under the group booking.
What is covered by the minimum sponsorship?
- International return flights
- Twin accommodation in hotels at the beginning and end of the trek
- Shared tented accommodation on trek
- English speaking local guides
- Airport transfers upon arrival and local transfers
- UK Expedition Leader
- Doctor
- Full board throughout the event
What is not included in the minimum sponsorship?
- Personal expenses (including extra facilities used in hotels, drinks and so on)
- Gratuities for the trek guides (suggested tip $100 per participant)
- Personal travel insurance
- Personal kit
- Visa
What kit will I need for the challenge?
You will be sent a comprehensive kit list when you register, which will give you information on what you will need for the challenge. There are many outdoor specialist shops that sell trekking equipment both online and in stores. Outdoor Kit, the UK's leading online supplier of outdoor clothing and equipment, have offered all Scope participants 20% off RRP on all their products. To see what they have on offer go to www.outdoorkit.co.uk. Please call them on 0208 123 5911 and quote "Scope" for a 20% discount off any RRP.
