How Scope supports disabled children to find their voice

"My six-year-old son Xavier loves nothing more than being around people. Xavier has cerebral palsy. He also has some difficulties with his sight, his hearing and his speech. So for the first few years of his life, Xavier struggled to tell me anything.

"As a mum, that was so hard to deal with; he depended on me for everything, It was heartbreaking. And if it wasn’t for the support he’s received from Scope’s Ingfield Manor School, nothing would have changed.

"Xavier now has ongoing expert support to develop his communication skills.  Every day, his teachers and speech and language therapists support him to express himself in new ways.

"To hear Xavier tell me for the first time what he’s done at school, it’s fantastic. Thanks to Scope, I’m now looking forward to having conversations with him about the future and as his needs change, Scope will support him all the way.

"But there are many more disabled children out there who are desperate to have their voices heard. And I know a lot of them don’t yet have the support they need."
