Francesca's volunteering story

Scope intern Francesa Scott

My name is Francesca Scott and I am currently on a gap year between school and university. I volunteered at Scope for six weeks as a volunteer intern on the events team at their Market Road head office.

What did you enjoy about volunteering with Scope?

What I enjoyed most about the work was being able to help out on a variety of tasks including sponsorship research, marketing and speaking to businesses and supporters on the phone. As an intern, I was also an extra pair of hands if needed for all the things going on in the events team! One day I went along to the London Marathon exhibition where I was able to meet some of the Scope runners which was great.

What did you learn through volunteering with Scope?

The internship at Scope enabled me to improve my writing skills, as I had experience of tailoring pieces of writing to different audiences for different purposes. I think being part of a team was a beneficial experience too. I got to meet lots of interesting people and learn more about how events are organised for a large disability charity!

What has been the best part of your Scope experience?

I would say that the best part of volunteering at Scope was being given responsibility for tasks of my own. I joined in the early stages of planning a new charity event, which gave a brilliant insight into all the factors that need to be taken into consideration. I felt that my contributions were valued and all the staff were very welcoming!
