Scope’s volunteering statement

Scope’s vision is to drive the change to make our society the first where disabled people achieve equality.

Who is a Scope volunteer?

A Scope volunteer is someone who, without receiving payment or replacing paid staff, gives their time to assist with Scope’s mission – through:

Why does Scope involve volunteers?

Volunteers have always been vital in leading and delivering Scope’s work.

Effective community involvement through the recruitment of properly trained and supported volunteers enables Scope to deliver the strongest possible message in its campaign for disabled people achieving equality.

Scope’s commitment to volunteering

We recognise and acknowledge the contribution of our thousands of volunteers in achieving our mission. As an essential part of our taskforce, Scope will value and support its volunteers by providing:

  • a safe and supportive environment
  • adequate resources
  • appropriate training
  • experience as a route to other opportunities
  • on-going recognition and feedback

Further, we will strive to meet all of the criteria of the UK National Occupational Standards for Volunteer Management.

All managers will receive guidance in understanding both the role of volunteers, and their own role in supporting this important part of Scope’s team.

Scope’s commitment to diversity in volunteering

Scope is committed to equality of opportunity in all aspects of volunteering. We promote inclusive volunteering both within Scope and throughout the wider community. The provision of an Access to Volunteering fund will enable disabled people to access all of our volunteering opportunities.

Scope’s volunteering policy applies to everyone at Scope and must be brought to the attention of all employees and volunteers. Further information on volunteering procedures and guidance is available from the Volunteering Strategy Unit at Scope.
