Fatigue management in an educational environment
Fatigue is a factor in many medical and physical conditions including cerebral palsy, and schools may want to draw up a fatigue management plan to ensure that they are supporting the individual child appropriately. All those involved with the child should contribute to the plan and the plan should be reviewed regularly.
1. Prediction
Take all views, particularly the pupil's, into account as you try to predict the times of day and particular activities that will cause fatigue.
2. Factors
List the factors that you must take into account in each situation.
3. Monitoring
Decide on the level of monitoring necessary to ensure that the effects of fatigue are noticed and that interventions are effective.
4. Interventions
List the possible interventions that might be used.
5. Action Plan
The actual strategy is laid out and agreed.
The plan is dated, signed and a review date set.
At the end of this document is an example of an action plan plus a blank template for your use.
