Moving on up

Generous customers using a national removal company have been busy donating stock to our shops this week.

Scope has joined forces with family-run firm, Bishop's Move, to provide a decluttering service for people moving home by offering them charity donation sacks for unwanted items.

Donation relays have been held at Scope shops to mark the start of this nation-wide partnership

Together we’re tapping into the Olympic spirit and five Scope shops are teaming up with the local branch of removals firm Bishop’s Move to host a first-ever donation relay.

Three relays have taken place this week in Crawley, Buckingham and Wimbledon. Check out the event's Facebook page for more info

Shop staff, volunteers, customers formed a human chain to bring donations - given to the charity by people when they moving home - from a removal van to the charity shop.

Since the partnership started last year Bishops Move have supplied Scope donation sacks to their customers, and encouraged them to donate any items they don’t want to take with them when they move.

It has proved popular amongst those moving home, and the partersip has seen us raise £10,440 from their donations for our work with disabled people and their families.

The donation relays in Exeter and Selby are set to come soon, and they will have the added bonus of local rugby and football clubs pitching in.

Donations are need more now than ever.

A recent survey by the Charity Retail Assocation showed that tough economic times meant more people were using charity shops. And as mentioned in this article in the Daily Telegraph, donations are slowing down with more people holding on to items or selling them online.
